A grandmother and her granddaughter were injured yesterday after being thrown from a fairground ride.
The accident occurred at a fairground in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, after witnesses observed the ‘Jungle River’ log flume come to a sudden stop and then ‘flip’ the pair out.
The 58-year old was taken by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary. The four-year-old girl, who suffered lacerations to her leg, was taken to Scarborough hospital.
Local mayor Cyril Marsburg later confirmed that there were no safety belts on the ride. “Had there been, they would not have been thrown out” he said.
The Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.
It is the second serious accident at a British theme park in a week. Last week a 12-year old boy fell from a Camelot theme park in Chorley, Lancashire and received serious injury.
